EXPLORE MID & NORTH DEVON
North Lake Chapel is situated in the heart of the unspoiled, rolling countryside of mid Devon. Near to the small village of East Worlington in the Little Dart Valley and between the small town of Chulmleigh and the village of Witheridge, both of which possess a good selection of local amenities including shops, cafes, pubs and takeways.
Within easy reach to both the north and south are the National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor respectively, providing excellent opportunities for walking, riding and fishing. Just 50 minutes drive to the spectacular North Devon coast with its sandy surf beaches such as Croyde, Woollacombe and Saunton Sands.
WALKS ON OUR DOORSTEP
We have explored a number of lovely walks in the immediate vicinity of North Lake Chapel (no car needed!), details of which are enclosed in the Welcome Folder at the chapel.
The original Two Moors Way spans 102 miles from Ivybridge on the southern boundary of Dartmoor National Park to Lynmouth on the North Devon Coast in Exmoor National Park, and passes North Lake Chapel along the road in Witheridge.
Eggesford Forest is home to the very first trees planted by the newly created Forestry Commission in 1919 within Flashdown Wood, find walking trails, dog walking and picnic areas.
EXMOOR NATIONAL PARK
Just over 30 minutes drive from North Lake Chapel you will find Exmoor, an extensive National Park covering relatively wild open and unspoilt countryside. It is situated in the northern part of Devon and West Somerset and covers 267 square miles, extending from the Brendon Hills in the east to Combe Martin in the west.
With over 1000km of footpaths and bridleways, through woodlands, past tumbling rivers and on open heather-covered moorland, the variety is vast. There are a number of guided walks available in the National Park, where experts can help you explore the fascinating history and wildlife of Exmoor. More about Exmoor National Park here
NORTH DEVON BEACHES
Westward Ho!: Pebble ridge + miles of sandy beach + lifeguards + surfers + ice cream = perfect beach experience. This treasure on the North Devon coast has plenty to do - you can learn to ride the waves, walk the dog, arcade games, explore the neighbouring Northam Burrows Country Park, or just treat yourself to a delicious local ice cream.
Saunton Sands - A never-ending sandy beach and dunes (actually it’s 3.5 miles long) beautiful in all weather, great waves and dogs are allowed all year round. Saunton Sands, on the north coast of Devon near Croyde, provides a day out in itself, you can spend hours walking the sand and dunes, there are local beach shops, showers, hire of boards and beach buggies, and a restaurant that serves a very satisfying cream tea, Devon style of course.With 3.5 miles of glorious sand, Saunton Sands is one of the best beaches in North Devon for families. Our girls love charging around the huge sand dunes that back onto the beach. Rent colourful beach huts at only £15 a day and gaze across the bay into the Atlantic Ocean.
Woolacombe - There’s no joking about this North Devon beach, one of Britain’s best, this 5 star 3-mile long beach is the ultimate destination for a UK beach holiday. Woolacombe beach lies between Baggy Point and Morte Point, the town itself has a laid back atmosphere and is family friendly. This is a holiday destination that will be on your list of places to keep coming back to.

Large supermarkets and a wide range of shops and amenities can be found in both Crediton and Tiverton (both 25 mins by car), and Barnstable (50 min drive).
